Folding Hand Truck

A folding hand truck comes in dolly, trolley, cart, platform, and other varieties.

A folding hand truck is an extremely handy item for carrying a lot of weight quickly and easily.  They offer all the strength of a standard model, with the added ability for easy storage by folding into a smaller shape.  Folding hand trucks also come in a wide variety of styles, from the standard dolly style, even to larger platform models that are able to carry much more weight.  Both types fold into small convenient storage sizes, making them effective ways to move  a lot of weight, without taking up a lot of space in your home or business.

The type of folding hand truck that is right for you depends upon what you really need one for.  Typically these are used in warehouses to move stacks of boxes from place to place as easily and quickly as possible.  If you don’t have that much weight to carry, usually only a few boxes at a time, a standard dolly style cart will be perfect.  But if you have massive objects to move from place to place, whether they are of a large size or just weight, a platform truck will serve your purposes much better.

A dolly style folding hand truck is useful if you have boxes to move back and forth when you are moving, or rearranging your household.  These can also be fantastic for moving around clutter in your garage, without turning it into a back breaking project.  Typically this type of hand cart can carry around 250-300lbs, making them ideal for almost any job.  Plus the handles fold downward, and usually the platform can be folded up, making them ideal for homes with limited storage room.  This will provide you with a quick and easy way to tackle almost any job you’ll come up against, without taking up a lot of space.

Platform folding hand trucks are the best if you have very large items to move.  These are handy for bulky shapes that won’t comfortably fit on a dolly, or very heavy items that a smaller cart couldn’t handle.  Most platform trucks are intended for weights well in excess of 400lbs.  That means you can move just about anything with relative ease.  But make sure you find a folding one that conforms to your homes storage spaces.  You’ll be surprised how small a platform folding hand truck can become, but they are still much larger than a dolly.

To purchase either a platform or dolly folding hand truck, usually a hardware store is the best bet, as they have a wide variety of styles for each.  Outlets like Sears are a good place to start.  Typically you can expect a dolly to cost you around $50-$100 depending upon weight limitation.  Whereas a platform folding hand truck is more expensive in and around $100-$150 depending upon size and composition.  But remember to make sure you test out the cart to ensure it folds into a workable size, and also drives comfortably before making a final purchase.  Otherwise you could end up with a cart that you’re ultimately unhappy with.
